Awards 2009

Once again, the Nottinghamshire Training Networks (NTN) awards evening was a great success held at the East Midlands Conference Centre. The Oscar style awards celebrated the outstanding achievement of learners, their employers and training providers who deliver the work-based learning programmes across Nottinghamshire. These programmes are fundamental in raising the skills of young people and thus developing a more skilled workforce.

Presenting the Awards This Year
The awards were introduced and presented by Jo Salter, described as “one of the 50 most inspiring women in the world” by Harpers & Queen and the very first female RAF Tornado GR1 fighter pilot. Jo is a truly amazing business and motivational speaker.
As a combat ready pilot with 617 Squadron, the Dambusters, Jo experienced operational tours of duty and took part in large international NATO exercises around the world. She worked in Intelligence and became a fast jet instructor. Her tales from such an elite world offered alternative insights into personal development, meeting challenges and succeeding in the face of adversity.

NTN Graduation - Review from Debbie Harris (JHP)

On Thursday the 28th January, I attended the Nottinghamshire Skills Graduation at the East Midlands Conference Centre – what a amazing experience!

Not least because of the pride I felt at having 20 Advanced Apprentices from JHP graduating that afternoon in full cap and gown.

The auditorium was full of excited/nervous and proud graduates, families, friends, training providers and employers.

All there, to recognise the fantastic achievements of 130 Advanced Apprentices.

Janet Charlton, NTN’s Chief Executive, opened the event by welcoming everyone and informing the audience that this was a unique gathering - the only one in the country where the Advanced Apprentices wear full cap and gown to receive their certificates.

Mick Brown, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Area Director LSC and soon to be YPLA Director, congratulated the Apprentices and spoke about his experience of Apprenticeships including his sons achievement.

Anthony May Nottinghamshire County Councils Director of  Children and Young Peoples Services talked about “his Apprenticeship” and how pleased he was to be involved.

Terry Laws LSC thanked NTN for arranging the event and talked about the positive impact of Apprenticeships on the economy and encouraged the Advance Apprentices to consider their next steps. He also introduced the Aimhigher DVD which highlighted progression.

The Graduates were then called up to the stage by Sue Bradshaw NTN’s Chair to receive their certificates from Mick Brown and Janet Charlton – a lovely photo call opportunity.

Janet thanked everyone and congratulated the Apprentices, everyone agreed that it was a truly marvellous celebration of success. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!
