NTN and Provider Case Studies
NTN is committed to the improvement of quality and delivery of WBL provision. Good quality provision benefits the employer, learner, the community in general and the training provider. The NTN BLS team has collected together case studies from their work with learners and others over a number of years. The providers have also prepared case studies showcasing their successful learners. The page is divided into two sections, one for NTN case studies, the other for members, with an archive of older case studies available.
NTN Case Studies:
- Retford Mentoring Project. A cohort of year 10 students from the Elizabethan school followed a vocational course outside of school, as well as attending school as normal. They had found it difficult to link what they learned in school with what they were doing out of school. NTN developed a programme with the school, aimed at bridging that gap. Follow the link (use the zoom tool to enlarge the text) to see the case study.
- The Excel-erate project. NTN Learner Support, as was, developed the Excel-erate programme to provide support for learners in year 10 at risk of not achieving 5 GCSE’s at C or above. The project involved 10 schools and 16 learners, who were placed on level 2 courses in Animal Care, Hairdressing, Construction, Childcare, Motor Engineering and Horticulture, and who also attended college or work placements at least one day per week. NTN provided experienced and dedicated training advisors who supported them in practical learning and Key Skills. Here are a few examples of some of their successful learners, Alicia Blake, other guy.
Member and Partner Case Studies:
- Public Sector. The Public Sector Compact in Nottinghamshire has made good progress in addressing the small numbers of apprentices in the public sector workforce, with the NHS and East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) leading the way. There is a link to the EMAS Implementation Strategy here. There is an excellent short video on the NHS website tracking the start up and current state of the apprentice programme, and follow the link to view a short case study of the scheme.
- Access Training. Access run a variety of training programmes catering for learners in school, apprentices and others. Here are a few examples of some of their successful learners
- Peer Review Development The Peer Review and Development programme led by NTN was organised to enable providers involved in the Entry to Employment programme to self-assess their own activities with support from a peer organisation. Outputs could include action plans for development and the sharing of good practices. Follow the link for case studies from The Learning Zone and Learning Works for Young People, who took part in the peer review programme.
- Nottingham Hairdressing Training Agency (NHTA) used the Train to Gain funding programme successfully to support learners in the hairdressing industry to raise their skill levels, benefitting their clients and the business. Follow the link for a case history.
- The National Apprentice Service website has a large collection of case studies from a wide variety of apprentices. These provide excellent personal accounts from apprentices as well as employer testimonials of the value of apprentices for their businesses. A must see site!
