Employer Engagement

The NTN Employer Engagement service has been operating since October 2007, responding to major changes in the education and training sector, particularly a requirement for training providers to be more employer responsive. Since that day, there have been other major changes, such as those being brought about by the Machinery of Government and a focus on the Public Sector as a major provider of apprenticeship places. Some of the recent changes are:

  • An increasing focus on the Training Quality Standard;
  • The arrival of the National Apprentice Service;
  • A new Common Inspection Framework as part of the Common Evaluation Schedule
  • New ministries, an end to the LSC, gradual emergence of new structures such as YPLA, SFA, YPLA, accountability to elected representatives………..

 Update February 2010:

  • The revitalized Public Sector Compact in Nottinghamshire has made good progress in addressing the small numbers of apprentices in the public sector workforce, with the NHS and East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) leading the way. There is a link to the EMAS Implementation Strategy here. There is an excellent short video on the NHS website tracking the start up and current state of the apprentice programme, and follow the link to view a short case study of the scheme.
  • The Public Sector Compact Apprentice 'Embedding Apprentices' event held at Notts County Football Club on the 2nd of February was well attended by public sector bodies and training providers and a successful ' speed-dating event' gave all the opportunity of meeting up and discussing needs and solutions. Follow the link to the Compact site to access the presentations from NAS, Nottingham City Homes and NTN.
  • The NTN Response to Redundancy service has been up and running since May 2009 and has been successful in assisting over over 1600 redundant people access further training. If anyone has not yet got in touch with the service and has employers or employees with redundancy issues, please get in touch with Val McKay or Toni Langridge on 01623 404538 or email Toni.Langridge@ntn-wbl.org.uk.
  • NTN has been invited to tender for the Diversity in Apprentice project from the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). This is for national or regional bids, with a deadline for entries on the 3rd March 2010. We are looking for partners to support this bid.
